Get your family together and draw a floor plan of your home. Mark all the windows on the upper level.
Plan two exits out of each room. Example: Door and window
Using an escape ladder would allow you to have an alternate escape route out of your window. Make sure all windows can be open quickly. Practice an escape plan with the entire family to ensure everyone knows what to do.
Choose a meeting place outside of the house. An ideal meeting location would be near a tree, telephone pole or your neighbor's house.
Call 9-1-1 to inform the fire department that everyone has got out of the house safely. No one should enter the house after existing.
Make sure everyone understands the planned escape routes.
